(Note: Early on, this becomes something of a Spoiler-cast that talks about important plot points that happen in ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’. Ye have been warned.)

Episode Four is here, how about that! This week’s big film is the return of Captain America, in ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, and we both had opinions on that! This episode also includes trailer impressions of both ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’, which both look like films that are happening!

And so, we talk about all the Marvel-based Superhero films that we liked over the years! Whether it’s Spiderman, X-Men, or the Iron Man films! We also go into detail about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and numerous other aspects of Superheroes in films.

Finally, we talk about the Random Netflix Roulette, where Dolph Lundgren threatens to kill us all for buying a house with drugs in the walls! Splendid. Of all the 80s Action stars to be up against, I can’t think of anyone more capable of kicking my ass.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Image

I’ve been a big fan of the Marvel Studios films, with one of my particular favourites being Captain America: The First Avenger. A period War film that happened to have superheroes in it, it served as the best possible introduction to the concept of Captain America, from his role as a figurehead in World War 2, and also a potentially retro approach to modern superheroes. As such, I’ve been looking forward to this continuation of the story of Captain America for a while, and the film promising a new interpretation of what Superhero films can do. Does this film live up to the greatness of the Avengers films, as well as the other recent Marvel superhero films? Can the film at the very least be better than Man of Steel? That’s not hard. Still, is this film good? Read on!

(Note: Near the end of this review, I give my thoughts on the final mid-credits and post-credits bonus scenes that Marvel is now famous for including in all their films, so watch out for that if you don’t want that spoilt. I give amble warning for it though, so don’t expect any spoilers in the review itself.)

Muppets: Most Wanted (2014)

20140323-134724.jpg

First things first, I love the Muppets. In nearly every form they’ve taken, I’ve always had a fondness for them. Whether it’s Fozzie Bear’s terrible jokes, Gonzo’s death-defying stunts, or Kermit’s every-man show-runner, the TV show and the subsequent movies appealed to a part of me that could identify with their specific comedy stylings. So when there was a new film released in 2011, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. However, it ended up being one of the best possible tributes to the Muppets Legacy, with the film fully understanding not just the strengths of the Muppets, but also the torture and imprisonment of Jack Black. So, things we can all get behind. This new film aims to keep the Muppets in the limelight, with a big ‘Great Muppets Caper’ style trip around the world, complete with heists, chases, and other antics.

Episode two of the all new podcast, and things a continuing at a frightening pace! The big film we talk about this week is ‘Need For Speed’, a heart-warming tale about a stern yet soulful jazz musician who learns to love again. Wait, no, it’s about race car drivers going really fast. My mistake.

This leads to a discussion on some of the more notable films out there based on Videogames, with varying levels of quality for each film! This includes the good (Silent Hill, Street Fighter), the bad (Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, Super Mario Bros. The Movie), and the icky (Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, anything Uwe Boll made).

Finally, we talk about the Random Netflix Roulette, which lead us to watch ‘Dracula III: Legacy’! Rutger Hauer is in it as Dracula! Jason Scott Lee whips himself a lot! There’s a vampire on stilts! What more could you want?

Need For Speed (2014)

Image

Films based on Video Games are usually terrible. I know, it’s hard to believe, but films such as Double Dragon, Doom, and Super Mario Bros. The Movie are not the best that cinema has to offer. This is something that I hoped Need for Speed wouldn’t repeat, as my love for the recent Fast and Furious films meant that I was more than happy to watch several high-speed car chases, maybe a bare-bones plot that gets sillier as the film goes on, or whatever. Either way, I was happy to get a ticket for this film, hoping it can at least be the start of a new franchise. Well…

NOTE: There was a recurring issue of audio “popping” in the recording this week. That has never happened in my past podcasts and both me and Tobiichi will be looking into this before next week.

It’s the first episode of the all new podcast starring myself and Tobiichi Karlson! This week, we discuss films we’ve watched, such as ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, ‘The Book Thief’, and I bring up WALL:E, because why not. It leads to racism. This is gonna be a great podcast!

We also have a large discussion on Modern Disney films, from ‘The Princess and the Frog’ to ‘Frozen’, where we look at the highs, such as ‘Tangled’ and ‘Wreck-It-Ralph’, to the lows, such as ‘Chicken Little’.

We also establish several features of the podcast, such as the Netflix Random Roulette! What film will we have to watch on Netflix by next week?
